Items (SKUs) overview
Goal
Understand how SKUs / items relate to product models, and when to create a product, service, or bundle.
Who it is for
Catalog clerk or manager (catalog.view to browse; catalog.manage to create/edit/archive).
How items fit the catalog
- A product model is the family (shared brand, categories, variant axes, default tax/GL).
- Each SKU (item) under a model is the sellable identity: SKU code, name, type (Product / Service / Bundle), lifecycle, stock policy, and detail tabs (units, barcodes, media, …).
- Creating a standalone New item from SKUs auto-creates a matching product model and opens the item workspace.
- Prefer the Catalog Add to catalog wizard when you need variants (option axes → multiple SKUs) in one flow.
- Brand and categories are maintained on the product model, not on the SKU create form. Open the model from the Catalog list or from the item’s product-model link.
- Corrections after go-live: edit the item General tab or specialized tabs; Archive (soft) instead of hard-delete when retiring a SKU.
