BOM setup checklist

Goal

Ensure catalog, routings, and policies are ready before production orders.

Who it is for

Planner / manufacturing admin.

Preconditions

• Items (finished + components) with correct stockable flags.
• Warehouses for issue/receipt.
• Optional routings and work centers.

Steps

1. Create component and finished goods items.
2. Build work centers → routings if you cost operations.
3. Create BOM lines with scrap %; set Default per finished item.
4. Activate before any work order create.
5. In Manufacturing setup, confirm Require BOM on WO release (default on) matches your process.

Result

Active BOMs feed work-order material plans and MRP “make” suggestions.
