Warehouse and inventory setup

Goal

Prepare warehouses and inventory policies so stock movements, transfers, and counts behave correctly.

Who it is for

Managers with inventory.manage (warehouses/locations) and inventory.admin (Inventory setup).

Preconditions

• Module inventory (core).
• Know tenant out-of-stock policy (tenant setting) — it interacts with negative-stock exception options.

Steps

1. Create at least one Active warehouse (Warehouses → New): code, name.
2. Optionally add Storage locations (zone/aisle/shelf/bin) per warehouse.
3. Open Inventory → Inventory setup (/inventory/setup, inventory.admin).
4. Configure Options: reservations, stocktakes, transfers (Require transfer approval, approval quantity threshold), lot/serial, negative-stock exceptions, require reason on adjustments/write-offs.
5. Maintain Movement reasons and Count adjustment reasons catalogs on the same setup screen.

Result

Pickers show active warehouses; transfer/count policies enforce approval and reasons when enabled.

Hard stops

There is no separate “warehouse-only setup” route — warehouse master data is the list/form; policies live under Inventory setup.
