Inventory revaluation
Goal
Restate an item’s carrying value to a new unit cost without changing on-hand quantity (value-only stock movement + GL).
Who it is for
Inventory / cost manager with inventory.adjust. Setup needs inventory_revaluation.admin.
Preconditions
- Optional module inventory_revaluation enabled.
- Item has on-hand quantity to revalue.
- Choose a warehouse for the value-adjustment movement (qty is item-pooled; this is not a quantity transfer).
Steps
- Open Inventory → Inventory revaluation (
/inventory-revaluation). - Select the Item. Preview shows On hand, Current unit cost, and Current value.
- Choose Warehouse, enter New unit cost (≥ 0), and optional Reference.
- Choose Post revaluation. Success toast: Revaluation posted. Review Value change.
- Configure defaults under Inventory revaluation setup (
/inventory-revaluation/setup): default method (unit_cost/market/manual), require reason, require approval, align with fiscal period, and reason catalog.
Result
Same quantity; inventory value and COGS offset move for write-up or write-down. Identical new cost → no movement.
Hard stops
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| No on-hand stock | Receive or adjust quantity first |
| Negative new unit cost | Enter ≥ 0 |
| Reason / approval required | Satisfy tenant revaluation options (UI may need those fields when policies are on) |
| Module disabled | Enable inventory_revaluation for the tenant |
| Confused with FX | Use Accounting → FX revaluation for currency, not this screen |
