Create a bill of materials

Goal

Create a BOM for a produced item with component lines and optional routing.

Who it is for

manufacturing.manage.

Preconditions

• Produced item and component items exist in the catalog.
• Optional routing already created.

Steps

1. Production → Bills of materials → New BOM.
2. Select Produced item, Output qty, optional Routing (or No routing).
3. Add Components: Component, Qty per, Scrap %; use Add component for more lines (≥1 required).
4. Set Default if this should be the item’s default BOM.
5. Save. Activate afterward if the BOM is still draft.

Result

A versioned BOM exists. Work orders only accept Active BOMs.

Hard stops

• Create requires at least one line.
• Later in-place edits blocked unless draft — use New version.
