Release, issue, complete, and cancel work orders
Goal
Move a work order from Planned through shop-floor execution to Completed, or Cancel when still empty of WIP cost.
Who it is for
manufacturing.manage (release/cancel); manufacturing.produce (issue/apply/complete).
Preconditions
- Open accounting period for issue / apply / complete GL posts.
- Component stock available in the WO warehouse (inventory rules / out-of-stock policy apply on issue).
- Tenant policies: Require BOM on WO release (default on), optional Require routing on WO release, Allow partial material issue.
Steps — release
- Open a Planned work order.
- Choose Release → status Released.
- Hard stops: already closed status; missing BOM/routing when policies require them.
Steps — issue materials
- From list use Issue all, or detail Issue selected with quantities.
- First successful issue sets In progress and
actual_start. - Hard stops: not released/in progress; partial lines when policy forbids; over-issue; non-positive qty.
Steps — apply operations
- On detail Operations, choose Apply for a pending op.
- Marks operation Done and adds labor/overhead into WIP.
Steps — complete
- Confirm Complete this work order and receive finished goods?
- Requires released/in progress and WIP cost > 0 (No cost has been accumulated in WIP for this work order yet. if materials+labor+overhead ≤ 0).
- Receives finished goods (default = WO item × qty), clears WIP to inventory, posts variance; status Completed.
Steps — cancel
- Confirm Cancel this work order?
- Allowed only when not completed/cancelled and accumulated WIP cost is zero.
Result
Completed WOs have stock receipts and costing; cancelled WOs leave no WIP.
