Bills of materials overview

Goal

Understand versioned BOMs as the component recipe (and optional routing) for a produced item used when creating work orders and exploding demand.

Who it is for

manufacturing.view / manufacturing.manage.

Lifecycle

1. Create BOM (Draft or Active depending on how you save) with ≥1 component line.
2. In-place line edits only while Draft — otherwise BlueMatrix returns Only draft bills of materials can be edited in place; revise to create a new version.
3. Activate sets status Active so the BOM can be used on work orders (The bill of materials must be active before it can be used on a work order.).
4. New version (revise) clones a new Draft version (is_default false).
5. Explode shows multi-level component demand (scrap inflated; max depth 20).
6. Mark Default to clear other defaults for the same produced item.
